Three new CPT® codes, 99421-99423, are billable when E&M services (those that would typically be done face-to-face) are performed through a HIPAA-compliant secure platform, like MedXCom’s automated medical answering service.
Dulcian Health, your Chronic Care Management for athenaClinicals® vendor, now supports these new CPT® codes. Through a joint venture with MedXCom, an automated HIPAA-compliant answering service, the time your on-call provider spends responding to patient-initiated communications and performing non-face-to-face E&M services is now billable.
And just like your CCM claims, your online digital E&M claims will be automatically coded and dropped directly into athena.
How Does MedXCom Work?
Simply forward your practice line to your own local MedXCom number and your callers will hear your fully customizable phone tree. Patients with a non-urgent call can leave a message to be answered the next business day.
For urgent calls, MedXCom has patients record a brief message, which is then delivered to the provider based on their personal call rules:
- Phone Call: while the patient waits on hold, the provider hears the recorded message before accepting or declining the call
- Text: the provider is alerted of the urgent message, which is retrievable in the app as a recording and voice-to-text transcription
- Live Operator: a US-based agent will triage the call
